Ah, the last quarter of the calendar year, a time where people kick back and enjoy themselves. Labor Day. Thanksgiving. Christmas holidays. Last minute vacations to use up the rest of your allocated vacation days. There is a reason why the next few months are people’s favorite; the chance to relax, kick back and enjoy a slice of carefree living for a short while.
However, before you pack your bags and shoot off to somewhere far, far away (even if that is just metaphorically), there are certain things you need to do – certain tasks you need to check off your list – and that is exactly what we are about to go through with you:
Photographs Worth Taking Before You Leave
We know this may sound totally bonkers to you because, well, most people tend to save their photo-finger until they have reached their holiday destination. But it is worth snapping a few pictures of things like your passport, your prescription medicine labels, your itinerary and anything else that may fall under the bell curve of important. It will just help you relax more if you don’t have a stack of papers to worry about.
Set Your Email To Auto-Respond
We have no doubts that you will check your email while you are away. We all do it. It is just part and parcel of modern-day work. But even if you are planning on checking what’s going on with this and that, we still recommend you turn your auto-response on for the simple fact it will relieve your need to respond urgently. Aaaand relax.
Tell Them You’re Going Away For A Few Days
By them, we don’t mean the person sat next to you on the bus, we mean the credit card company and the post office. There is nothing more frustrating than heading away somewhere nice only to have your cards stopped because some clerk presumed they were stolen, and there is nothing riskier than having a pile of letters and newspapers outside your home to alert a burglar to your absence.
Actually, Protect Against Burglars In Every Way
If you want to relax and not constantly be on edge about a break-in, then make sure you plan for this before you leave. Get yourself the best home security camera system on the market. Make sure all the windows and doors are locked. Take that key out from under the mat and leave it inside. Tell someone that you are going away and ask if they can pop by a couple of times. Draw the curtains and put a couple of bedroom lamps on timers so that they come on each evening.
Stop The House From Smelling On Your Return
Nothing adds to the holiday blues more than a home that doesn’t smell like home on your return. So, to avoid this, make sure you give away any food that might spoil to friends or family, make sure no wet clothes are left in the washer, the same for dishes in the dishwasher, take out the garbage and chuck a few pinches of baking soda into the toilets to prevent that stagnant water smell from spreading.
Now go and enjoy yourself, okay.
