Did you know that on average it can cost around ten thousand to renovate a room in your home? For areas like the kitchen and bathroom, it can be even more expensive. Just let that sink in for a moment. A redesign of room in your home could cost a fairly large percent of the price you paid for it in the first place.
It is worth pointing out that most people don’t have that kind of money to throw around whenever they want to, no matter how much they think the room could do with an upgrade. Most of us, are confined to a set budget, and it probably doesn’t extend beyond, at max, one thousand. That doesn’t leave a lot of wiggle room for those expensive features that you desperately desired for the living room. Or, that breakfast island you really wanted in your kitchen. Not to worry, you’re not alone in dealing with this problem. We all have eyes that are bigger than our paycheck when we think about renovating areas of our home.
Luckily, there are ways to cut costs, ensuring that your home looks stunning, without spending a fortune. You might think that this means only making smaller changes to your property, but it doesn’t have to. Particularly when you consider the possibility of upcycling.
Never heard of upcycling? Rather than throwing out items that are no longer in use, you simply find a different use for them around the home. There are lots of examples of upcycling, and if you make the most of this idea, you can easily cut the costs of a renovation down to size. Let’s look at some of the possibilities for upcycling that could make your home look tremendous, even on a tight budget.
Build Your Own Furniture
Yes, you can start by building your own furniture for the room in your home and lets’ start by thinking about the kitchen? Remember that breakfast bar you desperately wanted for the center of the room? Well, you might have a large enough piece of wood to make one yourself. If you do have a large slab of wood or even granite, all you need then is some legs for it. Incredibly, you can get hairpin legs with different heights to ensure that your new bar stands perfectly in the center of the kitchen. If you want it to remain fixed, it’s easy to screw it to the floor with a few extra pieces that you can buy from any home depot store. The best part is that aside from the legs, you probably had the materials you need to build the furniture in your house!
Or perhaps what you really need is some extra storage space in the bedroom, and so, you’re thinking about purchasing a new wardrobe from Ikea. Those swedish gods are certainly brilliant at crafting, stylish, minimalistic furniture, but it will cost you and add to that renovation budget. Luckily, there’s a better storage option that won’t cost you a fortune or even any money at all. How many times have you ordered a large package off a company like Amazon and been left with the box? If you still have it, it’s time to put it to good use
Cut off the flaps around the box and then, using a glue gun, wrap some spare rope around the sides. This will give it a wonderful vintage look. Once you have done this, you can put some white or cream material inside to give it the look of a stylish storage unit. You can keep kitchen supplies in there, toiletries or anything else that you can think of.
This Little Light Of Mine
Do you have a room in your home that is a little dull and dreary? You know what the problem is, there’s not enough light, shining brightly. Well, the answer to this problem is fairly simple. And it doesn’t require you paying for expensive new light fixtures for your home. Instead, you can think about getting some old tin cans. Remove the labels from them and paint them a gorgeous bright color. If you want to be a little more creative, you can use glitter and other craft accessories to give them a little more style. Once you have done this, poke a few holes in the can. Again, you can be more creative with different hole shapes such as stars. This will create wonderful patterns on the wall when the lights are off. It will give that room the extra lighting it needs.
We Really Need To Get Rid Of Those Wooden Crates
Not so fast. We’re sure you have at least a few wooden crates lying around your garage. You probably picked them up the last time you bought materials when you moved into the home. Or, maybe you used them to store items in your garage that you no longer have or need. Well, those wooden crates could make brilliant new shelves and cupboards if you secure them to the wall. Are you tired of there being a mess of shoes around the hall near your front door? These wooden crates could provide the perfect storage space for them. All you need to do is sand down the wood and then paint it a color to match the rest of your fittings. Do this, and you won’t be disappointed by how great the hallway looks. The added perk, of course, is that you can clean up some of the clutter.
If you have a broken bed that you’re thinking about taking to the dump, don’t. This can be broken down for a whole range of stylish uses in your home. For instance, the headboard can be used as a towel rack in your bathroom. It will look vintage and will be the perfect way to keep things neat and tidy.
If we’re staying in the bathroom, you could use one of the boards from the bed to create your own bath tray. Fitted over the bath, this can be the perfect place for your book or your cell phone. Just be careful not to knock it when you get out.
I hope you have fun with these upcycling ideas in your home. It just shows that you don’t have to spend a fortune to make your home look terrific.
